openSUSE 12.3 has been released. This release of openSUSE contain many features, and improvements under the hood.
Some of the endearing features of this new release of openSUSE are as follows :
Linux kernel has been upgraded to version 3.7 from 3.4. Apart from various other improvements, the Linux kernel 3.7 now allows for Android-style opportunistic suspend. It also has support for hybrid suspend to disk and memory at the same time. This removes the risk of data loss if you run out of battery whilst suspended-to-ram.
openSUSE 12.3 delivers proper UEFI support for x86_64 hardware and experimental support for Secure Boot enabled hardware.
It has completed the move to systemd (updated to version 195), and has dropped SysV init.Systemd is a next generation init system that replaces SysV.
openSUSE delivers all major desktops on an equal footing. These include the latest releases of GNOME, KDE's Plasma Desktop and Plasma Netbook, Xfce, LXDE, and the updated E17.
TeXLive 2012 had been split into several packages to have a highly modularized TeX typesetting system.
All the popular software such as DigiKam, Amarok, Rhythmbox, Banshee, Dolphin and so on have been updated to their respective latest version.
