GCC (GNU Compiler Collection) is a compiler system produced by the GNU project supporting various programming languages. It is the standard compiler used by most Unix-like operating systems such as Linux, BSD, and Mac OS X.
Originally named GNU C Compiler because it only handled the C programming language, GCC now supports many other languages such as C++, Objective C, Objective C++, Fortran, Java, Ada, and Go. Richard Stallman first released the GCC compiler to the public way back in 1987.
Today the GCC development team celebrates the 25th anniversary of the GNU Compiler Collection. To mark this special day, the GCC team has released a new version (4.7.0) of GCC.
GCC 4.7.0 is a major release offering many new features.
